Subject: Really not that bad...
Just not that good either..... Saw about 15 shows in 1994 including a horrific night at Giants Stadium. All in all, average 1994. Obvious Jerry preferred spending time with Grisman or the JGB. But still some strong moments... and given all that was going on in my world, I connected better with the "dirges" than the rockers. So for me, So Many Roads, Black Throated Wind, Standing on the Moon, and Brokedown Palace were what I wanted/needed to hear. And the songs Jerry seemed most in touch with. So while no monumental "dead jams", and an obviously tired/smacked out Jerry, still some raw emotion that kicked me in the gut and made me feel alive and yearning for more.....

Subject: it was still a great show
it was great to be back on the East coast after making the long haul from shoreline,after a decent show in Highgate,momentum would for sure carry to R.F.K,where they typically jam with higher marks and for real these shows were good!it was definetly straight forward grateful dead for the 90`s(which,i for one,really like the sound in90`s)..2nd night stuck out further,how can you go wrong with"So Many Roads"in the 1st and "SOTM"in the 2nd..there was also great moments with "Just like Tom Thumb`s blues""Black-throated"and a soothing "He`s Gone."...lordy mercy i miss my Jerry Garcia!

Subject: The scene not the show
I'm a veteran of 63 Grateful Dead shows from 1987-1995, and this was about number 52.

I echo the sentament of others. This was not my best shows, not even close. But neither was it my worse by any means. Just average 1994 material. But the vibe in the crowd was hot. Maybe carryover from the epic shows at RFK from years past. RFK was the one stadium I always loved to see the boys. It so felt we owned the place.

Subject: Yuck
I dug out my cassettes of this show, and it was painful! Most of the second set is unlistenable: Victim>Eyes is among the worst GD segments I can recall listening to...just plain out-of-tune...very sour-sounding I think first set was pretty good, and SOTM was good.

Subject: eyes/samson!!
get it for the eyes/samson...some of the most inspired playing of the otherwise weak year of '94. it was pouring during these songs and the dancing and joyous debauchery on the floor was for the ages. the reason you go back night after night even in the off years. SO MANY ROADS is also a highlight.

Subject: My Last Show
This was my last show. I was offered a ticket and ethusiastically accepted. My ethusiasm ended not soon after the show began. If there was ever a band that I thought would never go through the motions, it was the Dead. The band seemed lackluster and by the time the second set came around there seemed to be a battle between Bob and Jerry. Bob brings the crowd up with an upbeat song and Jerry bringing us down with a slow song. I have been to at least 70 shows but it seemed Jerry was distant and I believe we was happier playing with Grisman. Herion played a big part, I am sure, since it kills you before your dead. I never went to another show. I preferred to remember the earlier times. Old memories and good memories. That is why I love this site...it brings back some fond memories.

Subject: My First
A friend turned me on to the band a few months before, and this was my first show. Traffic was the opening band (they were good too) and we showed up during the last three songs of their set. After a short break, and going through the hassle of trying to consume a pretzel, I noticed the sun was starting to set when I saw the stage lights twinkle on one by one. It was like glimpsing the doors of heaven opening (whoever was doing lights, was very on). I could feel a mass build up of energy coming from the crowd, when the band hit the stage. They opened up with "Hell In A Bucket" (which I wasn't familiar with) and I instantly fell in love with this tune. Funny thing about this show was that I (like so many other first-timers I imagine) only recognized three songs throughout the show, but I was still amazed (for various reasons). The show itself, isn't above par for the year by any means, yet it was still a magical experience for my buddies & me. This is where I learned what "there's nothing like a Grateful Dead show" meant. We went down to the floor during set break, and when 2nd set began, it felt like the whole stadium was bouncing (maybe it was just me) with everybody in the stands dancing! It started raining halfway through "He's Gone" (I could have sworn Jerry was smiling and singing directly to me), and looking around, I noticed that people were dancing like the rain meant nothing except maybe a nice refreshment for the show. Unfortunately, that kind of messed with the sound (at least from where we were on the floor), but you can't tell from the recording. I loved "Drums > Space", in fact the whole "Space" concept was what got me into The Dead to begin with! Some of the folks looked a little scared in some parts of the improv (I admit, the boys can get spooky sometimes..he-he), but I thought it was very cool. I enjoyed "Lovelight" alot (seeing how it was one of three tunes I actually knew at the time); but I loved the "Brokedown Palace" encore even more. Interstingly enough, the encore of my first show would also be the encore of my last show (June 25th, 1995). Many thanks to Jonathan Aizen, for uploading this show (and whoever taped it!). This show isn't stellar, but it's a sentimental keepsake for me.

I cannot recall anything really special about this show except maybe TTB and Victim. But then agiain I do not remember anything really bad either. I have not listen to this copy or any copy in the last 7-8 years.

Subject: Magical.
This isn't the best show ever, it's kind of bad, as far as performance/audio quality go, but like so many shows, it has a special quality about it that I just can't describe. The performances aren't great, but somehow they just reach you. It's like when you see them on stage up-close and you feel that presence...it's that kind of magic.
